CER 374: the handling of large formats in Ceramics
The ceramics sector is evolving fast and its products too. They increase in size, for exemple, to become a completely different tool of use: would you have aver imagined that a "tile" could have become the kitchen counter?
As a consequence, a new problem arises: how can these large slabs be handled?
Of course we have many ideas for you:
- on platforms, with or without lifting
- with the forks, in case of palletized loads
- on customer specific frames
- hoisting frames on one fork or on two at the same time
- ...
In this special on the "Large Formats" of the "Giornale della Ceramica n. 374" we talked about some of our technologies, also applied to this sector.

Recently introduced by ICEM, “GL 2T” series offers pallet trucks specifically engineered to deal with very heavy large format slabs, shown in picture vertically placed on specific frames *.
Each machine is customized upon request, to handle at best with customer’s specific load. In addition to being extremely fast and efficient with the usual operations, these pallet trucks allow to safely pick up and deposit loads in containers, trailers and trucks. The ability to operate with loads placed just on one fork (either left or right one) allows to achieve maximum load density in narrow places: a typical application is in containers, where you can place 4 loads side-by-side in the first row (number 1 to 4, 2 at a time) and another 3 in the second row (number 5 alone, then 6 and 7 together).
The truck features 2 independent drive wheels and an electronic differential traction and steering system, which automatically manages drive wheels to achieve different steering angles and drive motor speeds.
QLS technology (Quad Lifting System) allows carrying and operating with loads with optimal stability and traction even with different load configurations, all of this with the highest level of safety. This lifting system automatically compensates difference in load on the forks, thus optimizing operations, reducing machine stop and maintenance costs. The truck can work with:
- 2 loads, up to 3.500kg each *, one on each fork
- 1 load, up to 3.500kg *, on one fork (either rh or lf)
- 2 loads of different weights, up to 3.500 each *, one on each fork
To bind the load to the truck, the machine features side load arms which can be easily raised or lowered by the operator.
* Load capacity and fork size customized upon request.
