MRT - Magnetic Rope Test
AISEM, the Italian association of lifting machineries, of which ICEM is a member, decided to create a document to clarify the presumed obligations of the Magnetic Rope Test (MRT), because of the too many innaccurate information.
Summing up:
- "MRT" is a technical standard and, as such, its contents do not fall under the mandatory controls that the Companies must take charge of
- A technical standard does not have the legal value that instead possesses an EU harmonized standard
- The technical standards generally include an improvement in the already existing work processes and / or verifications
- In the "MRT" technical standard, it is recalled the importance of the professionalism of the operator who must carry out the checks and that this test is complementary (and therefore not substitutive) to the checks that are already performed.
- This rule reminds that the Technician always remains the objective responsible for his own checks and that these tests do not relieve him from his responsibilities
- From an economical point of view, it may be appropriate to replace the rope with respect to the execution of these checks.
